2 – God Is Only Good
God is good. Goodness is not just God’s actions. Goodness exists because He exists and it comes from Him. Goodness is His being. His words and therefore actions are good because He is good. His actions are good because He is good. The idea that God does horrible things to humans is not only counter to scripture, but also counter to God’s character. (1 John 1:5) God no longer punishes humans because Jesus took all that punishment on the cross. Unbelieving humans are already punished by separation from God in the spirit because they don’t believe. (John 3:16-21)
The question so many humans ask is “Why did God allow that heinous thing to happen?” and the standard Christian response is that only He understands His mysterious and controlling ways and we have to trust His plan even when there’s sickness, disease, lack, trauma, and death. False.
