Really Tried to Make this Video

Wherein my dogs prevent recording | Tabitha Bigbee

The video above shows that I did indeed ATTEMPT to record a video for you all yesterday. Alas, it was not to be.

We adopted an 8-month-old Border Collie! His name is Cappy, and he’s the happiest dude, and he was not the problem. No, my perfectly trained, almost-3-year-old Juniper was the instigator of chaos! She loves having a brother and cannot resist wrestling with him 90% of their waking hours! And so I was not able to record.

But I wanted to encourage you to build a relationship (i.e., TRUST) with God through conversation based on the Word. That means you, your Bible, and the Holy Spirit sitting down to read the Word together. Asking questions, taking time to wonder, and allowing the Spirit to bring things to your mind. There’s another video coming on Saturday where I example this, but you don’t really need that.

It looks like plopping down with any book of the New Testament, not worrying about “is this the right thing for me to read?!” because the Spirit MAKES it the right thing, and going really slow. Not rushing to get through the chapter or section or even a single verse. Allowing yourself to wonder and think about each word, asking things like,

  • “What does that word mean?”

  • “Is this pre or post-crucifixion and resurrection? How does that change my relationship with what is being said here?”

  • “What word in this really sticks out to me? Why is that, Holy Spirit?”

It’s like you’re at coffee with Jesus, reading the Bible together. What would you ask from the text? What would you want to know about your relationship to what He’s saying? ASK! This is literally the Holy Spirit’s job to answer you and teach you all things! ENJOY the process without being hurried, pressured, or condemned.

Don’t make it a big, overdramatic deal that has to be two hours long with an enormous revelation and an aesthetic Instagram post. Take 10 to 15 minutes with the expectation that you’ll have questions, some of which might not get all the way answered, and that you’ll leave feeling more connected to the Spirit than before. If you don’t leave that 15 minutes healed or with your problems solved or with your anxieties perfectly settled, congratulations, you’re in process like everyone else. You’re dong GREAT.

That’s all for today! Love you all, and in case you missed it, here’s my latest video where I introduced the idea of conversation through the Word.

Happily,

Tabitha
