You are 100% less likely to do something if you have no reason for it.
So why would you expect yourself to follow through on a habit of creating a relationship with God if you don’t have a solid reason? Religion has done a great job shaming people for “not being disciplined enough” in their relationship with God without ever addressing WHY people might not be motivated to do so.
First, if people are taught that God is cruel and unpredictable, there’s no good reason to build a relationship with Him.
Second, if people are taught that they are sinners who don’t deserve His love, there’s no good reason to build a relationship with Him.
